Amazing Architecture & Interior Design

A post by George

Amazing Architecture

I came across this fantastic architecture & interior design blog called coolboom.com. It’s choca with amazing work from all over the world. Each project has a little bio about the designer & piece in question.

Building 1

The Joshua Tree, created by Hanger Prefab, is a “mobile home” with a steel skin and wooden interior. Now I don’t know about you, but where I am from, that is not a mobile home!! Lovely!

Building 2

Japanese designer Hiroyuki Miyake has created this unusual interior for an ice-cream shop. The interior is deliberately characterless, no color, texture or reflections, except that of the delicious ice-cream.

Building 3

Lynch / Eisinger / Design designed the new NIKE iD Showroom on Elizabeth Street in New York. Very nice. I will try and get some shots of the London store to post up after, it too is amazing!

Building 4

Ermita is a restaurant located near the cathedral of Granada that has been designed by the spanish architecture firm Enecero.

Building 5

This is Matali Crasset’s first interior design project, she transformed an old hotel into a large holiday house for a family.

These are five beauties, but there are loads more over on the Coolboom.com website & they also linkback to all the designers websites etc which is very handy. Coolboom is indeed, very cool!

Sweet Talk Podcasts

veer sweet talk logo

SweetTalk is an informal presentation series featuring some of the world’s most interesting creatives. It showcases the talented stars of SweetTalk NYC, which was presented by Candy magazine and Veer.

I was discussing these videos last night with a friend and remembered just how good they are! The designers featured are Michael Place, Glen Friedman & Michael Gillette.

Michael Gillette shows off some of his work and briefly details his past, it’s interesting and again some really interesting stuff on show, he talk about his beginnings & how he came to move over to the states.

Glen Friedman is a photographer, his motivation & commitment alone is inspirational. He talks at length about how his surroundings; music, politics, skateboarding etc influence(d) what he does.

Sweet Talk, M. Place - Teaser

Place is a british graphic designer & swiss typography/Helvetica nut he’s very talented, witty and has a lot of interesting self-initiated projects. In the talk he details his creative process and what makes him tick, as a graphic designer myself this was probably the video i related to the most… All of these vids are worth a watch, these clips aren’t exactly new but the content is timeless!

Also…

If your into Veers (fantastic) free stuff or you enjoyed these podcasts then I would recommend you check out their free catalogues. They are used a sampler for their new typefaces / stock photography but more than that they are really nice pieces of design and there is an extensive back-catalogue to boot!

On a side note if your going to subscribe to these podcasts I would use the RSS as the automatic updates in iTunes seems to be broken. – as per the comments, Grant from Veer has given me the heads up that the iTunes issue has now been fixed! Subscribe to the iTunes feed today!

Homage to the Stamp

Rotis Semi Serif, infographics & a great ampersand... Reasons enough to love Otl Aicher.

A really nice set of stamps designed by Gavin Potenza, ‘Homage to the stamp’ inspired by Otl Aicher. These stamps not only look fantastic but really encapsulate what Aicher was all about. Aicher is a big inspiration for me – probably most famous for his work on the 1972 Munich olympics or Rotis Sans (depending on your background). Apart from Aichers obvious love for colour & fantastic attention to detail he was one of the first designers to really bring focus to infographics and data visualization, now another love of mine (must remember to post about it soon!).

I think this is a great tribute to a fantastic designer, make sure you check out Potenzas website, Exploratory Design & take a look at The 1972 Muich Design Report – A really good flickr group featuring lots of Aichers graphic design work. Also worth a punt is his Linotype Profile – for samples of Rotis (sans/semi & serif) and a short Bio.
