Organised (by good design) in 2009

A post by George

Calender for 2009

In a bid to free up more spare time, this year I’m making a more conscious effort to get organised and stay on top of things. I’ve started using this amazing, letterpressed year calendar from Magma in Covent Garden as a visual heads up on what’s going on this month.

Also if your interested I’ve also recently purchased Things from Cultured Code, it’s a project management app for mac ($49.99). The UI is fantastic and the whole experience is really polished – every apple app should be this good! I think if we are being honest then this is what is really helping me get organised, but the calendar is beautiful!

Fifty People, One Question: London

A post by George

Another beautiful Fifty People, One Question short. It’s a simple question but I was struggling with it – I think that’s one of the beauties of this series, something simple throws so many.

I have been following the One Question series on Vimeo for a while now. I really love the concept and they are always shot and edited nicely. You might remember that a while ago I posted about the New York one, well they just released a London short and I couldn’t not post it.

On a side note, this is a special post, No. 100 on the dot – thanks for reading guys & gals!

Who is this ‘Wine Guy’?

A post by George

When i first started watching this video the English in me was saying “This chap is a bit OTT wouldn’t you say?” but Gary Vaynerchuk speaks an important message and by the end of the video I found myself shouting with him.

He has certainly got me thinking about video blogging/podcasting and i’m going to trial run an episode or two (don’t hold me to this) soon. Gary is a real inspiration and living proof that if your passionate about something, you want it enough and you are prepared to work for it, you can make it happen! “Clap this up, it’s the real shit!”.

Crumbs #01 – Feeling Inspired

A post by George

This is the first issue of crumbs. It’s a list format (don’t worry it’s not numbered) round-up of things that have inspired/humoured me recently.

It is not going to be replacing regular posts, I just don’t have the time to blog everything (moreover not all of these things quantify a whole post to themselves) and I feel like you guys (might) be missing out on some of this stuff.

Sir Ken Robinson voices his opinion on the education system, about nurturing creativity/innovation and the definition of intelligence. This is a truely inspiring talk, one of TED’s finest.

Faster Spider Payment Scheme

Spider payment for overdue account

David Thorne tries to pay a bill with a (crude) drawing of a seven legged spider – truestory. Ok so this is a bit old now and has been covered extensively by the twittersphere and online etc – but still worth a mention!

Analog meets digital, an amazing timepiece

A post by George

This corian timepiece is amazing, made by Alvin Aronson he says the idea behind the project was to add a new characteristic to the digital mediation of time, a physical / third dimension. “The time between 0 and 1″.

Here is one more video of the clock (not as good quality). Really, what an amazing piece of design to kick off the new year with!

I also just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has been reading geenius. I hope you all had a fantastic winter break and are starting the new year on a high (or hangover?). I can’t wait to see what 2009 has in store.
