Fantastic Ads

A post by George

Ad 10

Thought I would share this selection of fantastic adverts I have collated over the past few months while browsing the web. Some real gems here, I’m particularly drawn to the Crisis guerrilla street ad - a great example of thinking on your feet.

It's Nice That - Issue 01

On Friday I received a copy of the It’s Nice That Publication, Issue 1 of their bi-annual blog review. The content is as you would expect, fantastic. Lot’s of really great work from the past 6 months as well as some really interesting (& different) articles.

If your not convinced by my snaps you can see even more, including shots of it coming off the press (awesome!) on the It’s Nice That Flickr. The first issue is £10, and you can buy it direct from INT via Paypal for £10

Suddenly

A post by George

Magnus Engsfors directed and animated this short movie illustrating the moment of total mental collapse.

It was shot with only one Canon Eos 5D and a single external ProFoto flash while Magnus was suspended on two stretched ropes. The scene was then masked and retouched in Photoshop and layered up in After Effects to add distressing/movement/particle effects etc.

I think the video really captures the mood, it’s emotive and the animation works really well. What captured my imagination however, was the budget. Creating something like this with only one camera, Adobe Creative Suite and a bit of elbow grease is impressive (and as most of you probably know, i’m a big fan for doing things on a shoestring)…

I appreciate that the Camera and Creative Suite is expensive but these are all things available to University Students (in the UK at least) and really demonstrates what’s possible on a shoestring.

The house party to end all house parties

Excellent promotional video from Adidas to showcase 60 years of Soles and Stripes. Featuring more celebs than you can shake a stick at (David Beckham, Katy Perry, Missy Elliott, DMC (as in run), Mark Gonzales the list goes on…)

Crumbs #04 - Inspiration Round-Up

A post by George

I hope you enjoy this holiday crumbs (Issue No. 4), a selection of things i’ve been inspired by: Pepsi, Behance & Postbox to name a few…

Thought I would kick it off with a classic, the Dylan video for Subterranean Homesick Blues. I was having a conversation with my dad about music videos etc and this came up. Filmed in ‘65, it’s most probably the first music video of all time?

Behance-Promo

This cracking self promotion material from the Behance Network aimed at visualising networks. It’s a really nice piece of design & a nice use of spot UV. It’s also well worth checking out the rest of Jason Rubinos Behance portfolio.

les-calepins-de-lapin

Another great portfolio, this time from illustrator lapin he has a jam packed portfolio & blog full of illustrations “somewhere between vintage and modernity”.

ser-vice red pillow

I found this pillow on Flickr, it’s made by the guys over at Ser-vice. They did a brilliant range of colour (+ Helvetica) related goods & clothes but they all seem to be out of stock now sadly - worth checking out though.

Post Box for OSX

Postbox is a new e-mail application for OSX, it’s still in beta but looking very promising. Features of note include Conversation View and a very advanced search feature. If like me you use two different applications for your mail (work/home) finally we may have found a contender for mail.

Elements of Typography

The Periodic Table of Typefaces - a genius idea! Determined by statistically sorting and combining lists/opinions from a selection of sites, it features the top 100 most popular, influential and notorious typefaces (via @555)

Pepsi Re Brand

The Pepsi rebrand has been subject to mixed (largely negative) reviews. However after seeing the natural range press shots I am preparing to possibly eat my words. The packaging is simple and executed well - certainly two fingers to the Coca-Cola corporation moreover it looks like a mainstream drinks product that I may actually buy! Whether it will work/sell when sat next to it’s competitors is a different question but certainly a refreshing image.
