@eydryan yea I know what you mean about the AA one, but its pretty striking! I think the shredder ad is pretty good, it’s a really difficult subject and a great concept thanks all for reading.
Thought you would be interested to know the origins of the AA one… the white bar is used because on TV in the 1960’s they used to display a white rectangle in the bottom right corner of the screen to warn that there was about to be an explicit sex scene.
Hi beckmania, depends how you define viral, in my opinion these are adverts that are talked about, the message is spread by non-standard comunication… imo this is the nature of viral advertising, but each to their own thanks for reading.

The second advertisement, after the games, gives me goosebumps…. very powerful message behind that pic!
The AA one must refer to the scandal surrounding the CEO (Dov Charney, give it a goog).

The AA one is not “pure porn”. For all your know she could be in the birthing position. Its in fact a very beautiful picture, and unfortunate that so many people only think of pornography when they see a woman in that position. Automatically the words “slut” “whore” etc pop into your head. Grow up a bit gents.
I think the 2nd torture picture is a little over the top.

So the girl in the AA photo is giving birth while at home on a bed, pulling at her stockings, and looking me in the eyes with a straight face? You’re right, Ballington, everything about that photo suggest childbirth and not sex. She’s so lucky that she doesn’t even need to sweat. And who doesn’t wear stockings during childbirth?
I have to say i’m with Bundle on this one. The subject matter is clearly sex, to quote charlie from earlier
“the white bar is used because on TV in the 1960’s they used to display a white rectangle in the bottom right corner of the screen to warn that there was about to be an explicit sex scene.”

But it goes further than that AA have a reputation for using risqué adverts, they even use pornstars for many of their brochure shoots.
While you might not *want* to think that it’s about sex, I believe that for AA it is & by the looks of their sales/brand visibility, it’s for the better!

I like how either ad with the women means she’s either a vagina, or, the town bicycle. Neither has a damned thing to do the product. Oh, so awesome.
Life as a commodity is flippin’ amazing.

You’re (almost) all a bunch of pretentious pricks to me. They’re all very well made artwork, including the AA ad. That, folks, is not porn, it’s not even close, I mean really, before you act like you know the difference between porn and artistic nude, take an art class or something, open your mind a little bit. I pity you if you can’t tell the difference between beauty and beastly.
The AmAp, ad is promiscuous, I agree on that, but it’s not awful. It’s very aggressive and it pops, and in advertising, no matter what you’re selling, you want to catch peoples attention, and that does it, every one of these is a great work of advertising design, all very eye catching, in their own thought provoking ways.
Stop letting the FCC brainwash you into thinking everything is bad if it’s a little naughty.

And by the way, excellent post. I sumbled onto this, and was glad I did, until I read the comments. It’s really saddening to think so many people are really like this, mindless and irrevocably absurd in their takes on beauty and art.
I normally try to avoid getting into these ridiculous comment arguments, but this was just too much, so utterly stupid.
There is no doubt that the AA ads are provocative/promiscuous. I’m not saying it’s outright porn but the implications that AA often puts out with its adverts sometimes more obviously than others) -E.g. The ’safe to say she loves her socks’ campaign
There is a whole lot of controversy over this AA advert, which is exactly why its on this list, advertising brilliance! Like @Sky said it forces people (love or hate) to interact & get involved.
@Sky: I’ve had a figure drawing class. It’s not proper at all to have a model pose like the AA ad.
But it’s certainly not porn, either. It just has the likeness and innuendo of something that you would see in porn.
And sex/nudity depicted in art and media CAN be beautiful and thought-provoking and artistic, but do you really honestly think that ad is that deep? It’s merely using a woman as a selling point to push a product. If the sexual innuendo isn’t a big deal, then the objectification should be.
This is why I hate advertising, as long as your ad (and therefore the product) gets noticed who cares what demographic of people you degrade and objectify, right?
thumbs up for this one.
Although some of this works may cause new look at those brands I think these ads will do fine in the Internet. Burger King’s ad is one of those - do you want to eat your burger near pimps or drug dealers (especially when it’s getting late)? I don’t think that this ad can be printed in a newspaper. The web is better to make some noise around such ad.
